AMERICAN MOUNTAIN ASH (Sorbus americana) LEAVES are 6 to 8 inches long, with 13 to 17 toothed leaflets 2 to 4 inches long and up to 1 inch wide. There is a 2,000 foot elevation difference between the top of Dolly Sods and the river valleys around Parsons, West Virginia. Elevation has everything to do with life here. For new or struggling trees, do deep root watering to encourage root growth.
